Imperial Sugar has signed on with Intelligent Global Pooling Systems to become the first sugar company to use radio frequency indentification-enabled plastic pallets to distribute its products.
As part of the deal with Orlando-based iGPS, the Sugar Land sugar distributor will provide a pallet platform that is lighter, more uniform in size and 100 percent recyclable. Imperial Sugar said it also will have exclusive rights to the technology for a year.
Using the RFID-enabled sensor, Imperial Sugar (NASDAQ: IPSU) will be able to trace where each pallet has been and what has been transported on it.
